Today I got lost in my email. As I drifted through the typographic sea of airline itineraries, PayPal receipts and words with friends, I came upon an email that made me thankful to be a lax email archiver/deleter.
Bring on the Digital Hoarding; I am hereby volunteering myself to star in first episode airing Spring 2055.
Below is an email I received from my Dad on September 22, 2008:
“Your mom has been busy downloading music on her new machine. She uses my computer to download the CD’s and transfer them to her new machine.
I got your note about Ron Paul and the bailouts. It’s a sad situation we all find ourselves in these days. Unfortunately a good number of CEO’s in leadership positions throughout the country are nothing more than immoral, unethical self centered vultures who have no consious thoughts about anything or anyone other than lining their own pockets. As far as they go, I hope whatever the government does they strip them of every single dime they think they have coming to them. I don’t think it would be a good idea to let the entire economy collapse, (no government involvement) as they used to do it in the days before the Great Depression, as Ron Paul pointed out in his piece. Just remember that in the days prior to 1930, a good number of people in the country either lived on or knew someone that had a farm. Most everyone still had access to food basics. Now days how many of us even know someone with a farm??? Also families used to live close to one another which reduced travelling to a minimum. Not so today.
In many respects I agree with the premise of Mr Paul, since I am his age, but times have changed, people have changed, expectations have changed. I say this because OJ gets away with murder and walks free, there are over 400 killings in Philadelphia a year and only a few of the criminals are brought to justice, Mumia Abdul Jamar shoots a policeman a number years ago and he is still appealing the guilty verdict, child molesters are given minimal sentences and then sent back into society to molest more children, Catholic Priests get involved with underage children under the umbrella of the church. I’m much more concerned about the bankruptcy of common decency and justice than about a Wall Street bailout.
Well, I just finished the NASCAR pool results and I will take them back to the Libs. Talk to you later. Love Dad”
Love you too
