Water is Bad for Laptops

You can not tell by reading this post, but I am writing from a different computer. Why? Well, like the clumsy idiot I often am, I spilled water all over my laptop this morning. I got into a pointless argument with Butterfinger about muffins, of all things, then I proceeded to sit at my desk and frantically click around as if I had something much more pressing to do than engage in a fight about breakfast foods. I was mad, I was upset, I needed to act like I had a mission to accomplish, and I threw my hand across the desk, taking out my water bottle in one fail swoop.

I am not sure how much actually went into the computer, but it was enough that when I turned it upside down that droplets of water were falling out from between the keys. I have been reading that of all things to actually spill into your laptop computer, water is probably the best as it lacks all of the sugars and acids found in most other beverages – which have a terribly corrosive effect on all of the sensitive “inside parts” of a computer.

On the other hand it is not very encouraging that when I tried to power the computer down soon after spilling the water, that it did not power off right away and the screen went black. It is also even less positive to note that when Butterfinger came over to do a final shaking of the computer before laying it to dry, that even more water shook from its case. I could have sworn I heard some sort of frying sound, but hopefully that was just a figment of my imagination and all of the data, pictures and documents I have been working on for the past 9 months are not totally lost.

There is not much I can do at this point other than sit and wait, I have been reading and see that it is best to wait at least 24 hours before trying to power the computer back on. Butterfinger is out right now, but when he returns I think I may ask him to help me take the innards apart so we can inspect the damage and dry off anything that is still wet. I suppose before I go ahead and get Worthington (the laptop) all Frankensteined up I should see if performing such surgery would somehow void my warranty. Luckily, when I purchased my laptop, Butterfinger convinced me to splurge and get the complete care, which covers all sorts of accidental damage, ever water spilled by an over-emotional and completely klutzy idiot like myself. Excellent start to the day.

I once got into an argument with a guy over muffins…
It could have something to do with the person I was arguing with and that he is an absolute tool. Regardless of the details…what are the odds?

Wow, SF, you are a muffin mania magnet! I also once had a snit with a guy over a muffin. Well, sorta. He caught me munching on a forbidden muffin. It ruined breakfast. I don’t remember his name.

What are the odds? More importantly, WHERE are they?
