Fight the Bully – Monster Cable Inc.

The Cookie Monster and Loch Mess Monster had better watch out – Monster Cable is on a mission to own anyone and everything with the name “Monster” in their title.  In case you are not familiar with Monster Cable, they are a company that sells (overpriced) audio cables that can be used for stereo, television, and computer set-ups. Since their incorporation in 1978, Monster Cable, under the lead of its founder, Noel Lee, has sought legal action to oppose over 400 companies.  Once challenged by Monster Cable, these companies are pressured into settlement, forced to surrender their name to Monster Cable Inc., who then (so kindly) licenses THEIR name back to them for a fee.
A quick Google of ‘Monster Cable law suits’ yields a disturbingly long list of Monster-related companies, both large and small, that have been targeted in the past.  They have already sued Pixar for Monsters Inc., and attacked were the Chicago Bears for using the nickname “Monsters of the Midway”, despite the fact the Bears had the nickname more than 40 years before Monster Cable Products was founded.  Hansen Beverage Company’s Monster drink has also been mentioned in a few of the records, as well as Bally Gaming for their use of Monster Slots.  The next on their list is a Mom-and-Pop, Rhode Island based, family entertainment center named Monster Mini Golf.

A brief synopsis of the Monster Entertainment/Monster Mini Golf story is as follows:   Husband and wife work tirelessly to create their own alternative entertainment center for families.  They give up their home, sleep on their office floor, and eat peanut butter sandwiches for a year in order to save money to begin franchising their business.  After a lot of old-fashioned hard work and determination they now have a successful business with 23 franchises, all of which are also independently owned and operated by other Mom-and-Pop owners.  Instead of simply rolling over and giving their “Monster” title back to Noel Lee and gang, Monster Entertainment and Mini Golf has decided to stand up to the corporate bullying and is taking on Monster Cable Inc. in court. As you can imagine, the court fees associated with this type of action can be crippling for a small business, which is why they need our help.
