Deal Alert – Digital TV Conversion Coupon

The US Department of Commerce is supporting a program to help everyone get their Televisions up to date with the upcoming switch to all digital transmissions. For those of you that are not aware, this means all TV’s will need to be able to connect to a digital signal. Analog TV owners can purchase a conversion box that will plug right into their TV and change the digital signal to an analog one able to be displayed by your TV. You also have the option to connect to cable, satellite or another paid option to ensure you will not have any interruption in service, or you can upgrade to a newer television with a digital signal.

So what is the deal?!

The US Dept of Commerce has started a relief program to make sure that people are able to keep watching TV! I suppose they may be worried that we may start reading, or (gasp) possibly thinking, if we had to manage without televisions. Anyway, to help ease the financial burden of upgrading to new equipment the United States government is offering $40 debit cards, 2 per household, for you to use toward the purchase of a converter. These debit cards are only available while supplies last – right now 22.25 million are available, and after those are depleted an additional 11.25 million will be made available for households that receive TV broadcasts solely with antennas, or “bunny ears”. The cards expire within 90 days of receipt and right now it appears that the time from application to receipt is about 1-2 months.
