Not too much changes around here during the winter months, except that we get the space heaters out in order to heat the two rooms of the house we actually spend time in. This is a wonderful time for the dogs, and they tend to spend most of their waking and non-waking hours laying in front of the heaters baking like holiday hams. I have always been baffled, and slightly alarmed, at how close they get to the superheated infernos without seeming to injure themselves. Is it their 2 inch long coat that protects them? Maybe their way of mouth sweating is just that much more superior to our method that they are able to disperse heat in a more effective manner?
Seeing as I am unable to ask them these questions, I suppose they will remain up to speculation. They really do seem to be able to tolerate much greater levels of temperatures than their humanoid counterparts, although last night Tucker did hit the heater and turn it off, in turn freezing Butterfinger in the garage. I do know one thing for sure, if you ever want to find my dogs in the winter, just listen for the heater, and you are sure to find their lazy butts sprawled out about 3 inches from the center of the heat source.
