Today was one of those high-pressure days. First there were issues with getting payments processed through our voice carrier. Butterfinger had just gone to bed a few hours prior to this malfunction, and he wanted me to change one eencie, weencie, minuscule part of the script to reflect a carrier problem. I have seen the code numerous times before, and even done some simple commands in Dreamweaver, but I was pretty nervous to go in and find the piece I needed to re-write. I sat down and took my time, being sure to be on the correct page of script before even performing a simple search.
So what do I do first? Accidentally hit a character on the keyboard and totally start freaking out of course! So to make sure I did not do any detrimental damage to the page itself I load it onto another browser, at least I typed in the website address to attempt to get it to pull up. Nothing. No site. Could accidentally pushing the letter ‘c’ really have brought all of the startup operations to a complete halt? I had just been on my pages not 5 minutes prior to this incident, which would indicate that the server was up 5 minutes ago… Much to my displeasure I was forced to bring in the expert.
My suspicions were confirmed when Butterfinger was able to quickly determine that the server was down. So in what must be one of the world’s greatest coincidences, as soon as I sat down to change the code, the server was compromised, bringing down the entire site. Things were soon straightened out and we were back up and running in no time, but I remain scarred – it may be awhile before I dare to open Dreamweaver again.
So on to the next issue. There has been a Chinese caller spamming calls to a Chinese piano ensemble. He single-handedly wasted a nice portion of our call money in the past two days, and once we had the server problem resolved, the war was on. Butterfinger banned ip addresses and telephone numbers, but this guy just would not quit darting in and out of the internet passageways in order to connect to his beloved ivory keys over the telephone.
Right now Butterfinger is developing some new features to protect us from future spammers of the world and I have been working on some advertising revenue to get us out of the red. Onward. Oh, and Tucker chewed apart his brace in the five seconds he was left alone on the couch today, luckily we are crafty.
