The startup has been down all weekend while we work on rolling out a new business model involving a points-based calling system. I am not going to go into too much detail on it right now, as we still have not even worked out all of the details in their entirety, but basically we are going to have the users earn, save, and spend points to make calls and upgrade to enhanced user features. Each user will be given a certain number of points per day just for registering with the site, and those points may be used to make 15 minute long Click2Voice calls. If a user wishes to call a destination that requires more points than he/she has, they will have the option to complete certain point-earning actions or pay for points directly.
The points system will allow us to open calling to an increased number of international destinations, and will now include international cellular phones. It will also make the users more active within the site and thus more likely to pass the site on to others, especially since referring new users is one of the main ways to earn more credits. We are also hoping that these new measures and user actions will decrease the number of call spammers and thoughtless users that waste countless minutes per day. There are going to be at least 5 ways in which users may earn calling credits, and a paid option will be available for users that would rather just spend a little cash (and we really mean a little, the rates will be dirt cheap) to make calls.
So I am re-reading this and it looks like a somewhat jumbled mess, but I suppose it came out that way because of how excited I am for the new direction for the startup. I think this is going to be a really great incentive system, and I am excited to open up calling to more countries. I am also really anxious to get some of the new features out to the users like call buttons, call histories, and the mobile site.
I am hoping it sounds as simple to all of you as it does to us, but since we really do not have much contact with the outside world I would really appreciate any feedback you might have. I think it sounds very clearly explained. I think the point system is a great idea, and I’m glad that users will be able to earn points each day and ALSO work for points. It seems like you will get the most diverse group of users with this system, and also it seems like it will enable you to generate revenue this way possibly. Good luck!
